Living Room UP-GRADES

I will never leave our new West Elm couch now that it has arrived. It is BLUE. And GORGEOUS. And ultra-modern and yet oh-so-cozy and 100% LOUNGE-tastic! What a perfect place to spend my weekends/rest of my life.

Due to the amazing fact that while the new couch is actually larger than our old couch it is much more compact so....YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS!?

We utilize this new found space with a Herman Miller industrial table from Two Jakes, the BEST mid-century furniture source other than Knoll Studio proper. The table seats 2 perfectly, and 4 if need be. In one weekend we ate, French-pressed, read the paper, played Scrabble, and I played with the art of paper cut all on this perfect table.

Couch for Sale

This is our lovely yellow half-C, late 60's/early 70's couch that we love dearly.

Our needs have changed and we are selling this piece, hopefully to a friend who will give it a warm, cozy, colorful new home. A classic and bold design piece, this is an investment in the aesthetic future of your home.

We bought this couch 4 years ago and have taken good care of it during it's lounge-tastic run in our home. The cushions are being professionally cleaned right now, something we have done a few times a year by easily removing them. This black-hole-of-cozy (in the BEST possible way) seats up to 4-5 people, and LOUNGES 3 very nicely. We have watched YEARS worth of television and films on this couch (entire series of The Wire, X Files, Friday Night Lights, to name a few). I highly recommend getting some great retro trays to eat dinner on because once you have it YOU WON'T WANT TO LEAVE!

If interested, please e-mail meg@enderbynest.com to discuss pricing. We are looking in the $300 range, or best offer. You have to arrange pick-up.

Tree of Life

This is my television and mind simultaneously exploding last night while watching Tree of Life. Alone, in the dark, overwhelmed and moved, I was truly CONVINCED someone slipped something in my drink. SOMETHING AWESOME.

Nothing linear. All evoking, every beautiful.

DIY Rope Necklace

Rope jewelry is everywhere right now and I am digging it. As per usual, inspiration struck me late at night so I unearthed the super-thick rope I used for my Nautical Lamp Re-Vamp to make this necklace tutorial. Adjust the thickness, length, and color to give your own custom, look to the piece.

My Winter Weekend

We just had an incredibly fun family weekend at Wintergreen Resort with my dad and step mom (my other mother) who have had a house on the mountain since 1987. Get a glimpse into my winter long weekend in in this live tubing video!

We tubed, we skiied, we went wine tasting, we swam, we sat outside in a hot tub looking at the mountains with GIANT snowflakes falling all around us.

My LITTLE brother (who towers over me at 6 1/2 feet) came up, thus ensuring hours of giggling uncontrollably until falling onto the floor in the fetal position.

It DOES NOT GET BETTER than having your siblings as some of your best friends in the world. That means YOU Catherine and Christine!

Will skiied for the first time ever and killed it! One day one he worked his way up to turning on a Blue Diamond. The skiing-since-birth-Allan-clan applauded our brave newbie's first time out on the slopes!

My parents are so amazing, supportive, and fun. I truly am the luckiest girl in the world to have them.

Print this out to create your own adorable fox earmuffs, a necklace piece, or an applique. You can adjust the size of the fox head for different projects. For the earmuffs, print it out with the width of the fox face measuring 4 1/4".

Closet Visit

DEAR ME! Brenna Egan's Closet Visit is SLAYING MEEEEE! The '70's mantal art and colorblock dress are hurting my soul I covet them so much. It's sinful, really.

Of course it was no other than Refinery 29 that brought this beauty to my attention. I mean, who else?

Yeah, Mr. White! Yeah, science!

I am OBSESSED with Breaking Bad right now. Like, watching-three-seasons-in-21-days style. We are about to dive into season 4 IF WE CAN FIND IT. Until we do, I am totally entertained by a recent CRAFT blog post of mine.

"My Mom in the 80's"

I say this phrase a lot to describe a certain Thirtysomething-ish/late-80's-early-90's genre of style. Specifically my mom would always wear her long, thick hair in a braided bun (as a kindergarten teacher) and would have a little dash of blue eye shadow (as a chic, stylish lady). She most likely would be wearing a collared shirt, collared popped, of course, and when warm enough a pair of culottes. Yep.

When I went home for Christmas my mom and I went through her closet a bit and unearthed our favorite belts from back-in-the-day. Memories came flooding back of "my mom in the 80's" and I wanted to be listening to Neil Diamond and Peter, Paul and Mary while watching The Incredible Hulk in the apartment that the two of us shared circa '83-'87.

How-To: No-Sew Caftan

For all of our non-sewers and sewers alike, here is a DIY caftan you can make without sewing skills. Caftans are free-flowing long tunics that originated in the middle east centuries ago. They have re-emerged throughout fashion history many times, most notably in the late 60's-early 70's (think Mrs. Roper and Maude). I, myself, LOVE a modern day caftan for lounging, relaxing, or accessorizing and wearing out.

Sewers can sew instead of use the tape I show, and feel free to play with different fabrics and the depth of your slits and arm holes. Really light, airy fabrics or silk give a really sexy look.

CARE: Most caftans (due to the fabric) are hand wash or spot clean. The trade off with the no-sew caftan is that the tape means a bit more time is necessary for care. I recommend spot cleaning with the no-sew option. Replace the tape with a straight stitch if you want to throw your caftan in the washing machine.
