Stacked Books Wallpaper

The highly-coveted item this week is this Stacked Books Wallpaper! There's got to be a way we can DIY this mug. Please put on your thinking caps and let's get to the bottom of this.

I first saw it in this home inspiration post from Cup of Jo and love it.

DIY Warhol Quote Wall Art

The above print and the post card below have hung in every bedroom of mine since age twelve. We all have artists who we adore, who inspire us, whose work has enriched our lives by speaking directly to us. As I said in a previous post, one of those artists for me is Andy Warhol, whom I've adored since the sixth grade when my weekly planner was filled with his work. Not aware at the time of what an icon he was, I thought he was my on personal discovery. Kinda like in elementary school when I thought the Pixies BELONGED to only me.

Not only does his artwork move me, but the things that came out of his mouth are absolutely priceless. I did a whole line of Enderby tote bags hand stamped with this quote a few years ago:

Wanting to bring his work into my home, I was inspired by an Apartment Therapy post on how I could do just that. So this week's episode of Decor It Yourself was Warhol Quote Wall Art.

I created the piece on a door we needed to re-paint anyway. The door is in between our creative space and bedroom, so we get to enjoy it from both rooms. I love how it turned out, and love that you can create the same effect as a gift on a smaller piece of wood. An easy technique and great end result. How will you spin this project?

DIY Shadowbox

My husband and I went on a vacation for a week in January to the lovely Siesta Key, Florida with my in-laws who have a home there. It was a great escape, especially in between the snowy days that New York had to offer.

We saw all kind of wild life and gorgeous sunsets, we sat on the beach, read by the pool, relaxed, and had a great time.

Upon our return, I wanted a cool way to commemorate the trip AND a gift to thank my in-laws. So, I decided to do something Martha would do and make a shadow box of our trip for the Coles. of course I made an episode out of it that you can see right HERE!

The shadowbox of the trip is a gift, so I bought a nice frame to use and added shells, coral and a map.

To add a modern aesthetic to the concept, I did a more DIY shadowbox with a vintage wooden coffee box, and my designer chair collection. We get to keep this one. The options are endless, so tune in to the second act to get plenty of ideas you can put your spin on.

If you can't get away this winter, never fear, I show you how to turn a little part of your home into your favorite vacation escape. our restroom has a beach feel to it, and on a day like today with a massive snowstorm afoot, it is nice to take a hot shower surrounded by sea shells, coral, seagulls and beach finds.

DIY Silhouette Pillow

I always miss my Nana. When I have a big surge of missage or just can't get her out of my mind, I try to make something out of her old fabric. For a Decor It Yourself episode a couple of weeks ago, I made a Nana silhouette pillow.

You can see the full episode here.

My AiDS......a comedy

My best friend Justin is running this really cool green theater company called At Hand Theatre. My husband made their website, and the company was created by another good friend, Daniel Horrigan. Dan is a director, but recently embarked on the journey of writing a one-man show about life, love, pop culture, kitchenware, and his experience of finding out he has HIV. Or is HIV. He is still figuring it out in a surprisingly HILARIOUS way in 'My AiDS....a comedy'.

This is Dan and I after the opening night party in which some of the proceeds from the show went to the important charity, the Anti-Violence Project, an organization that tries to prevent and help with hate crimes. Each performance of this $25 (dirt cheap for NYC theater!!!) go to a vital LGBT charity. That stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered for those of you who skipped Pride this year:). So, not only is this a hilarious, touching, and incredibly personal NYC coming-of-age-30 play, but it is also a really important cause that is close to my heart. It is only playing through March 1st, so get the word out, and go see a fantastic play that is already getting all kinds of press and accolades.

I literally had to stifle my loud, genuine cackle, because Dan is side-splittingly wry and witty. He's like a gay Golden Gilmore Girl....with AiDS.

Fallingwater

One of Frank Lloyd wright's masterpieces is Fallingwater in Pennsylvania. It is preserved and open to visitors, and it is on my to do list for 2010. It is about 90 minutes outside of Pittsuburg and would make such an interesting and gorgeous day trip from my parent's home in State College, PA. Until then I will eat up these images of the stunning exterior.

As we enter the interior, look at the rich, luxurious color palette of in the cozy seating.

Here is a photograph of the interior in the 1970's.

In my research I also found the first floor floor plan. What a treat!

When I go, I will certainly share my photographs with you.
