Curry

It's amazing what a coat of Curry paint will do.

Zakka

Zakka is a Japanese movement and phenomenon that has now reached global fame. The word Zakka describes lovely things that enhance the aesthetic and mood of you, your home, your surroundings. Ahh, lovely things.

I am a little bit/A LOT in love with Japan's most famous Zakka artist Shinzi Katoh. Oh-so-lovely and pretty and warm and fuzzy to look at.

Chairs Want to Pretty Too

I was putting a bow in my hair the other day when I looked over and saw one of my antique tiger oak chairs, sitting by its lonesome.

It looked at me as if to say 'can I be included in on this beautification process'. I smiled and replied 'Yes chair. Yes you can.' And gave her a gold bow.

And the chair was happy.

Like a Virgin

One of the very few movies that fall under the 'actually as good as the book deserved' category, is Sofia Coppola's Virgin Suicides. I devoured the haunting and enchanting Jeffrey Eugenides novel in college, in a matter of hours.

The three day obsession with eating up every single word on the page left me changed and inspired, warm and alive.

Great timing in that the film was released immediately upon my completion. Surprisingly satiated and aesthically-impressed upon, Sophia Coppola was immediately forgiven for The Godfather III, and quickly became a favorite filmmaker.

The perfect summer cinematic meal is filled with sunlit fields, flowing floral frocks, and long-haired sisters in homemade clothes listening to the forbidden vinyl .

This Summer's to-do list: Re-read this and Nabokov's Lolita.

Until you pick up the novel, here is the Lisbon girl's bedroom. So feminine and teenager-girl, I need to write in my diary about it.

"Ali McGraw in Love Story stuff"

Lovely Amy Merrick of An Apple A Day was talking about her favorite thrift store in a recent entry. When describing it, she said "Nothing over a buck and they consistently have "ali mcgraw in love story" stuff and amazing men's things."

That one sentence made me smile, want to go to that thrift store, need to re-watch my dvd of 'Love Story', and rifle through my hat basket until I found my slouched beret cap. Amy's entry made me want to see more Ali McGraw in Love Story stuff.

Nana's Memorial

Last weekend was my Nana's Memorial. Instead of a funeral, we did as she wished, and had a kick-ass, celebratory and festive party.

Here's to you, Bobbie Brewer!
