Threadheads

My friends Rob and Corinne have their very own podcast show on this rad new DIY Fashion network Threadbangers. They are hilarious, super-creative, innovative, unique and have a fan-freakin-tastic sense-of-humor that makes their show totally entertaining, funny and incredibly informative and helpful.

Episode 10 features little ole' me of Enderby with our lil mutt, Gracie. We're on right after the sock puppet commercial. Good stuff.
To top it all off, Rob and Corinne are two of the most genuinely kind, passionate and generous people I have met in their industry in a long time. More power to you, Threadheads!

Vans from '92-'07

I'll never forget my very first pair....Old School white lace-up Vans, with a red stripe. I bought them with my sister Lauren in Penny Lane at Rehobeth Beach summer of '92 after an afternoon on the boardwalk, of course. I wore them until they fell off of my feet several years later in high school. Those white shoes got me through a Lalapalooza 94' mudpit, the awkward teen years, and everything in between. I've owned a few since, and will own many more in my years. The simple, classic old school shoes are where it's at. I was looking for these navy classic old school's, but found these instead and love them. Just bought these up the street for a steal! They are a great simple canvas for all of the bright colors I have goin' on in my Spring & Summer wardrobe.

When a brand of shoes can take you from age 13 to 27, you know they are doing something right.Love the Chukka Boot in True White and Light Grey.

These are all great.

20th Century's Post-Modern Collection

20th Century Design's shop is filled with great mid-century, mod pieces, with a special affinity for Italian designers.

Lucite is so cool, clean and goes with any and every era.

There are a lot of metal and chrome pieces that have stark, modern lines and will last forever.

The first step with any room, has to be good, warm, equally-dispersed lighting. If a room or home is filled with harsh, overhead lighting, it's hard to focus on the spaces and niches in the nest. Every home needs good lighting, so why not pick lamps that are pieces of art themselves. These vintage, really beautiful lamps and chandeliers will make your home something really special.

This shop is bursting with really rad, recycled, vintage items. Man, I wish I could have them all.

Sweet Mary Jane

Bowl Full of Jelly's shop has these stunning, 1920's patent leather Mary Jane's. Amazing. Of course, way too small. So, girls with lil feet, take this piece of advice and do not let these soles of perfection slip between your fingers or toes...

Excuse me, what is going on here? These are amazing as well. Thank you, Joules, these are breath-taking....

These pastel gems look like something Blanche's stylish young niece would wear on 'Golden Girls'. I love the Miami lemonade yellow and mint chocolate cream ice cream green. Nerdybird's shop has these Red Cross authentic vintage 70's barely-three-inch heels.

Build your recycled, retro kitchen

As you green your nest, start with the kitchen. There is nothing cozier than a retro, recycled, clean kitchen.

PYREX is the new tupperware...

Recycled, vintage, durable, practical, nearly-klutz-proof, and fantastically retro kitsch, PYREX mixing bowls, storage containers and serving dishes are great finds for your kitchen. Start collecting these now, because it's catching on and prices are starting to go up.

Here are a few more inspiration pieces for you while you build your retro, recycled kitchen.

For useful items you need anyway, why not spice it up a bit with a cute owl tea bag holder, or bright and fun fire engine red polka dot measuring cups. These weird, fun finds make cooking (or ordering out and putting your food on great dishware) a lot more fun.

What is better than a nice homage to the state where your grandmother was born, or where your mom went to elementary school? Being given a kitchy and cute vintage set of South Dakota salt & pepper shakers made my sister, Lauren's week. Lauren's mom Wanda, is from the Dakota (not to be mistaken with John Lennon's posh Upper West Side home), and the fun, unique salt and pepper shakers are a fun and sweet throw-back to that side of her family.

There's nothing better than shabby-chic recycled vintage linens for your tables. I purchased the vintage bird tablecloth from My Crafty Corner and found the below pink linens on Etsy.

And then we have aprons....

Be sure to include Enderby reversible retro aprons in your green nest. Enderby is a green company and is always using recycled, reused, vintage fabrics and materials to create new spins on old things.

It's a tough world out there, but building a lovely nest to come home to at the end of a busy, multi-tasking, juggling-too-many-balls-at-once day, can make all the difference. Especially if that nest has a stocked bar of JD...
